Becoming an ANA Member
There has been a significant resurgence of interest in antiques, especially among millennials and Gen-Z sellers and buyers. This trend is fueled by an emphasis on sustainability, the pursuit of unique personal style, and the reach of social media and online marketplaces. The global antiques and collectibles market was valued at USD 238.1 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to USD 402.9 billion by 2034, with a CAGR of 5.5% (Global Market Insights Inc.).
This new wave of interest is changing the antique market in several ways. The market has moved beyond the traditional, formal "brown furniture" that was popular with older generations. Younger buyers are mixing pieces from different eras, like Georgian and Regency furniture, with modern design for a fresh look.
Overall U.S. antique market projections show continued growth, driven by a blend of online marketplaces and traditional offline venues. As such, new dealers and venders are getting involved in this long-standing trade. It is truly an exciting time to be involved in the industry.
Unfortunately, the antique, book and art trades are sometimes viewed negatively or through a shroud of mystery. This is sometimes due to a perception of fraud, questionable ethics, and a lack of transparency. The rise of online search engines has shed light on some to these deceptive practices and market manipulation.
