  1. Adhere to the Law:

    Operate within the bounds of all applicable laws and regulations, especially concerning the import, export, and transfer of cultural property.

  2. Do No Harm:

    Avoid actions that could harm individuals, communities, or the public trust.

  3. Professional Expertise:

    Use expertise and diligence in assessing items and practicing due diligence when acquiring them.

  4. Honest & Transparent Dealings

    1. Accurate Descriptions:

      Provide customers with an accurate description of the item's age, history, maker, condition, and any repairs, as this directly impacts price. 

    2. Fair Pricing:

      Offer prices that reflect the item's fair value, fostering constructive dialogue rather than lowball offers. 

    3. Guaranteed Title:

      If acting as the seller, guarantee the buyer the title of the goods; if acting as an agent, disclose the seller's full name and address. 

  5. Cultural Property & Respect

    • Avoid Illicit Trade:

      Do not knowingly deal with property that has been stolen, clandestinely excavated, or illegally exported. 

    • Respect Cultural Origins:

      Engage in dialogue and consider the return of cultural property to its country or people of origin if it was illegally exported or transferred. 

    • Respect Diversity:

      Show respect for individuals, cultural groups, and communities, considering their cultural and historical backgrounds, beliefs, and values.

    1. Foster Public Confidence:

      Cultivate an environment that inspires public trust and confidence in members of the profession. 

    2. Continuous Learning:

      Continuously refine expertise and judgment to maintain high standards of practice. 

    3. Community Engagement:

      Aim to bring antiques into the lives of a wider audience and contribute to the development of the art and antique market.
